Alana Howells
Clinical Psychologist and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist
About Alana
I am a clinical psychologist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist with over twenty years of experience across private practice, psychiatric settings, clinical management, tertiary education, and the community sector.
Throughout the first decade of my career, I worked extensively with children, individuals, and families who had experienced trauma, abuse, or other relationship difficulties, along with managing a community therapy service and providing supervision. Since that time, I have focused on working with adults, couples, adolescents, and children in private practice, as well as teaching Psychology and Counselling at postgraduate level. I am a Board-Approved Supervisor, and provide supervision for the Clinical Registrar Program as well as for early career and more experienced psychologists and psychotherapists.
Currently, I work primarily in private practice, whilst also providing group and individual supervision in university settings.
My Approach
I provide psychoanalytic psychotherapy and supervision.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is an evidence-based, intensive, often longer-term treatment for working through a range of experiences and increasing self-understanding. Please see this link for more information about this form of therapy and whether it is right for you.
While I work with patients across the lifespan, I currently focus on working with individuals who have experienced relationship challenges, traumatic experiences, chronic health difficulties, or repeating patterns and behaviours that are causing distress. I aim to provide an experience where you feel understood and heard, trying to attune deeply to you and what you need. I work with you to help you to develop increased self-understanding and connect more with difficult emotions.
